Affordable for every library
RefTracker is accessible by all
staff of your library, but is priced according to the number of concurrent
reference staff users, so that RefTracker can be afforded by all types and
sizes of libraries.
Internationalisation
The RefTracker user interface is currently only provided in English, but the database is UNICODE compliant which means that questions can be entered in any language and answered in any language. Translation files for other Latin languages are being developed now, and non-Latin languages will follow. RefTracker is already currency and date format independent, and works across time zones.
Platform
RefTracker has been developed within the Microsoft.Net environment and has been written in Microsoft Visual Basic with ASP pages and javascript, that talks through an ODBC driver to SQL 2000 or 2005 (including the free SQL Server Express version). Microsoft Excel or any .csv file compliant recommended for enhanced reporting.
RefTracker can be provided as a hosted service, or can be loaded on a server in your library. If runnning in your library you will need a Windows 2003 server, running Windows IIS server version 6.0 (or above) with its SMTP service turned on in order to manage the web pages and outgoing emails, or acces to an email server. SQL Server 2000 or 2005 must be available somewhere in the network on which you are running RefTracker. RefTracker can interface with staff user's Microsoft Network logins and security products based on such logins.
Because Altarama RefTracker is compatible with the most popular Internet browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer(tm) Version 5 or higher, Safari 2.0 or higher, and Firefox 2.0 or higher for Windows and Macintosh, access to the reference services of your library can potentially be opened to any user of the Internet. There is no need to install special clients or to download browser plug-ins.
